The AKK medical fraternity house is home to 24 professional students at the University of Iowa. Most are in the college of medicine, but we also house some dental and other graduate level students, even those who are only in town for a short time. Our goal is to provide affordable housing with an enjoyable community atmosphere for our residents, all within walking distance of campus. This website is a recent addition intended to improve our relationship with one another, prospective residents, alumni, and the community at large. We hope you enjoy your visit to the homepage of the Alpha Kappa Kappa Medical Fraternity. |

Alpha Kappa Kappa in Iowa City, IA was but one chapter (the Alpha Psi chapter) of a national organization. Our chapter dates from the 1920’s when the new hospital complex on the west side of the river was being planned and constructed. They occupied other rented houses before purchasing this lot in 1925 and building this house. Two additional lots on Teeters Ct. were later purchased to provide a yard and parking lot. The national AKK fraternity went out of business in the 1960’s and AKK has been an independent since. AKK had a live-in housemother and a live-in cook until the 1970’s. There was a hired cook preparing daily meals until about 1990. At one time a comparatively expensive place to live, AKK is now a very reasonably priced option for medical students looking for community-style living. |
